Responsibilities:
1. Organizes & leads a value engineer team (with first stage team size 2) and oversees laboratory activities
2. Works closely with Global Design center product vertical leaders or the customer, and SSL manufacturing leadership team to understand and ensure that VE project execution align with the product lifecycle; the key driver for the value engineering of enterprise products such as Server, Storage and Networking Switches is to achieve annual cost saving target.
3. Interfaces with Global Design Center or SSL customer and comes up with proposals for product design and solutions optimization; implements engineering changes, and works with supply chain team on product cost reduction.
4. Leads board bring-up, hardware debug, function test, product validation and product level assembly
5. Reviews NPI test plan and test report, recommends on product quality improvement and compliance requirements; supports the transition of product from NPI to MP.
6. Prepares product functional diagrams, key component selection, schematic drawings, and PCB design; leads the SSL hardware team in conducting simulations, development board evaluation and proof of concept demonstrations.
7. Maintains product design package which includes but not limited to Schematic drawings, Bill of Materials (BoM), Board designs, mechanical drawings, etc.; releases product design package to departments involved in manufacturing.
8. Responsible for product design sustaining activities such as but not limited to EOL management, alternative part qualification, pilot build & validation, engineering change management, etc.
9. Communicates with customers during technical discussions and product design review
10. Analyzes prototype/product BOM cost, makes value evaluation, identify component P/N for cost reduction, evaluate function impact and design efforts, make & lead the execution of the test/validation plan, and close loop on design component database and supplier base.
11. Work with supply chain on new vendor qualification and introduction including hardware like mechanicals, PCB, heatsink, fan, power modules, batteries, connectors, etc.
12. Supervises the VE team members and interns on skills development, technology knowledge, and tools/equipment proficiency
Capabilities and Skills:
1. Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science; With at least 3 years’ relevant value engineering management experience preferably in server, storage and network communication industries
2. Must have at least 6+ years’ experience in electrical hardware design; preferably with CPLD coding skills
3. In-depth knowledge in product development using Intel x86 or Broadcom switching solutions; broad knowledge in system architecture with strong debugging and testing skills
4. Experience in EDA tools such as:
(1)Cadence, MentorGraphics, Altium Designer, Zuken, CAM350 (Hardware Development)
(2)Valor, Fabmaster (Manufacturing Analysis)
(3)PTC Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD (Mechanical Design / Analysis)
5. Good understanding & knowledge in technology roadmap and market trends related to enterprise and datacenter solutions
6. Familiar with the supplier’s capability, especially on key commodities such as mechanical parts, PCB, heatsink, fan, power modules, batteries, connectors, etc.
7. Familiar with MNC SCM operation and management process; able to work effectively with SCM sourcing and Commodity management team
8. Strong organization, coordination, and planning skills;
